Newdigate Cricket Club “Bobs” were away to Horley Cricket Club – on paper an easy win for Newdigate. However arriving with only 9 players suggests this game was not going to be easy. Game 3 of 4 Key moments in the game plenty – ignoring the fact we arrived at Horley Cricket Club with only 9 players. The easier option was to cancel however this would of been unfair to the U14-U18s at Newdigate as this would of mean’t no ECB Natwest U19 Club T20 in 2015 (Competition Rules). Newdigate Captain Kemau Leverock called tails and won the toss and elected to bat.
A slow manicured start with the first two overs moving the scoreboard to 15 with out loss.
Then Alex unexplainably made way for Captain Kamau, by missing an in swinging delivery. Yorked Alex no he missed it!!
A structured innings from Captain Kamau who uncharacteristically mis-judged a delivery from Horley’s Jamieson and was caught by Cosham at point on 49. Not on the script for Newdigate needed his second innings if he retired on 50 not out. (Cricket Justice some would say for 9 players would of been in earlier than 11 players)
With no support with the bat Wickets fell at regular intervals and a rain break at 8 Overs – (18:30-18:50) where it was decided to reduce to 17 overs probably assisted the Hosts – Horley. This was another key moment in the match. Newdigate only had 9 players which meant Newdigate were all out for 103 in 17 overs, an inevitable consequence and a key moment?
Newdigate Cricket Club “BOBS” 103 for for 8 (all out) off 14.2 overs (96 balls)
Kamau Leverock 49 off 36 balls & Bowling 3 for 20 off 3overs
Horley Cricket Club batted second – knowing they had 17 overs to bat, reached 104 for 7 with 11 balls to spare.
R Waddington 24 at the top of the order
R Jamieson 22 at No:7
Bowling – M Heise – 3 for 19 off 20 balls.
My MOM (Man of the Match) – Captain – Kamau Leverock – for his all round performance
49 with the bat and Bowling 3 for 20 off 4 overs
Coaches mention – All 9 Players for always tough “in the head” and body with only 9 players. Special Mention – The Cricket Rain.
A Comfortable win for Horley with 11 balls to spare of the 17 overs.
Newdigate could of won with some catches sticking, two more players and knowing the quota of overs to face.
Congrats to Horley Cricket Club with their first win in this ClubT20 Competition.
