with no Cricket provision e.g. no Cricket Nets in the Sports Hall.
Tadworth’s NEW Stunning Leisure & Community Centre opened 5 October.
I visited Saturday 10 October and as I predicted the Sports hall does not include any cricket provision e.g. Nets – to allow the local Cricket Club – Tadworth Cricket Club and all those that wish to practice indoors during the winter months
All sports are suffering reduced numbers and I believe cricket is not helped my excellent new Leisure Centre’s opening in my council region of Reigate & Banstead with no Cricket Facilities.
Junior’s taking up sport seems to be reducing, we need every opportunity?
Why can’t every new sports hall include Cricket Provision e.g. some nets 2 or 4 to allow foster cricket interest, ability and talent int he area in which each Sport correction Leisure Centre’s are located.
Yes I am slightly biased and looking for options to deliver Cricket, Coach Cricket to All Ability Juniors to Adult alike and even Adult Professionals over the winter hence options for Cricket Provision at public sport ad leisure centre.
My home town of Horley – also saw a new Leisure centre open (2012) – excellent facilities but again with no Cricket provision.
For the Horley Leisure Centre I was involved in the process and had some success – Higher Ceiling for the SPort’s hall to allow Elite Trampolinists and a viewing gallery. I presume these were automatically included in the new Centre at Tadworth.
Needs opportunity to participate and Leisure Centres need to embrace cricket and include Cricket in their Sports Halls even if they are only 4 badminton courts in size. also needs to be decided at the planning stage with the local authorities asking the communities and perhaps like a standard size sports hall surely cricket nets should be included.
Excsuses I have heard for not providing the sport option of Cricket and Cricket Nets is that centre staff would have to get both the nets and mats out each time. No storage for the mats.
